Abstract


In order to select the indicated tooth for pit and fissure sealing, the measuring methods for depth of pit and fissure should be developed. LASER with sharp beam would be applied to check out the occlusal pit & fissure figures in detail.
80 extracted permanent molar: teeth at age 20 were selected and applied with Red-cote solution as disclosing agent.
After cleaning with electric ¢¥toothbrush with dentifrice for 10 seconds, all materials were divided with two groups, indicated teeth group as comparatively more residual disclosant on fissure were found and non-indicated group as less residual disclosant were-seen.
All materials were applied and scanning as 0.5mm intervals along the main groove with the 0.2mm diameter LASER beam to check out the pit & fissure depths and figures and recorded with analog recorder.
Teeth as indicated group were sealed by ordinary method and check out the surface with the same : LASER beam
The results were analyzed and compared with the indicated group non-indicated group, as will as before or after sealing groups. 1. Relative areas of cross sectional profile along the main groove were 16.49 % in non-indicated teeth group while the 100.0% in indicated group.
2. Average deep pit or fissure in indicated teeth group were measured as 2.24 0.42mm, so it was recommended that the tooth with deep pit & fissure over than 2mm would be indicated for pit & fissure sealing.
3. After sealing; average areas of cross sectional profile along the main groove were; reduced as 27.22% and average depth of pit were calculated as 0.54¡¾0.16mm while 100.0% in areas-and 2.24¡¾0.42 mm in depth as before sealing group.
4. New instruments for check out the ¢¥pit & fissure depth as clinical use,;to select the indicated tooth properly should be developod
